Anh Hùng Xạ Điêu 1983 (Legend of the Condor Heroes) – Đàn Bầu Remix #24

Legend of the Condor Heroes / Anh Hùng Xạ Điêu was one of the many martial arts novels written by the prolific Hong Kong-based writer Jin Yong in the 1960s-70s. In the decades that followed, these stories were adapted for television over and over, with some of the most popular adaptations being those by TVB in the 1980s.

This is my rendition of the TVB theme song to this particular novel. It’s been arranged for string ensemble, percussion, and a small ensemble of Chinese/Vietnamese instruments: zither, fiddle, and bamboo flute. The vocal leads are covered by đàn bầu recorded in the instrument’s higher and lower octaves for the female and male voice respectively.

The sunny shots were filmed in Long Beach. The foggy shots were filmed in Newport Beach on an uncharacteristically hazy (but gorgeous!) day.

Enjoy!
